With the rise in popularity of fully remote and hybrid jobs, many travelers are opting to take their work on the road with them. In lieu of spending their hard-earned PTO, these new-age digital nomads are opting to work by day and play by night in the destination of their choice. This new work vacation trend is being called the ‘workcation’. Traverse City strikes the perfect balance of abundant remote work locations, breathtaking natural beauty, and after-hours recreation, making it your perfect workcation destination!

Co-Working Locations

Spaces such as Commonplace Community Coworking are specifically designed with remote workers in mind. For a small daily fee, you can find your perfect workspace away from home. Offering a quiet working environment, and private meeting spaces when needed, there is no better option when you need to get the job done. Traverse City Offers numerous co-work locations around town to cater to your workspace needs.

Coffee Shops, Libraries, and Bookstores

Coffee shops are the traditional go-to spots for remote work. Traverse City’s variety of boutique java spots, like Cuppa Joe at the Grand Traverse Commons, offer up a great variety of local brew aromas to accompany you throughout your work day.  Go to any coffee shop around Traverse City on a weekday, and you’re sure to find a plethora of remote workers typing away on their laptops.

However, coffee shops sometimes get a bit loud, creating unwelcome distractions when you need to focus on your work. Local libraries, such as the Traverse Area District Library, offer a quiet work environment, but the noise restrictions can be limiting if you need to facilitate a meeting. Bookstores like Horizon Books strike a perfect balance between the two atmospheres.

Beachfront Accommodations

While most modern lodging options offer high-speed internet, few of them offer stunning views of crystal-clear bays and private sugar-sand beaches. Soak up the sun while you work at any one of Traverse City’s numerous bayside resorts.

If the beach life isn’t quite your style, check out these other great lodging options around Traverse City and the surrounding area.

Downtown Traverse City

Public WIFI is offered throughout downtown Traverse City, so you can stay connected to your work anywhere within the DDA designated zoning. Clinch Beach and West End Beach are both great places to work with stunning vistas of West Grand Traverse Bay.
