As the 2024 Summer Olympic Games kick off in Paris this week, we’re excited to cheer on top athletes from all across the country in their quest for gold medals. A total of 592 Americans, including 16 from Massachusetts, will compete in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.Â
The Commonwealth will be well-represented at the upcoming Olympics. Track and field star Gabby Thomas returns after winning silver and bronze medals in Tokyo. Fencer Eli Dershwitz of Sherborn and rugby player Madison Hughes are set to compete in their third Olympic Games. The women’s rugby team includes Franklin native Kristi Kirshe, while rowers Regina Salmon and Kristi Wagner will make their second Olympic appearances.Â
One name that should be familiar to Boston sports fans is Celtics star small forward Jayson Tatum, playing alongside LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and others as part of the USA men’s basketball team. Tatum previously competed in the 2020 summer games as part of Team USA. In addition to Tatum, two other members of the 2024 champion Boston Celtics will also be competing in Paris– guard Jrue Holiday (officially listed from California) and guard Derrick White.Â
